“In My Language...”
Words that carry worlds
To celebrate linguistic diversity, students shared words or phrases from their
mother tongues—each carrying deep cultural meaning and emotion. From
expressions of love, humor, and wisdom to phrases untranslatable in English,
this segment became a beautiful reminder of how language shapes our identity.
“Jugaad” (Hindi) – A clever fix or creative solution. “It reflects how we always
find a way, no matter what.”
“Meraki” (Greek) – To do something with soul, creativity, or love. “It reminds me
to pour myself into everything I do.”
“Ayyo” (Kannada/Tamil/Malayalam) – A single word that can express surprise,
pain, empathy, or frustration. “It’s everything in one sound.”
