WILDFLOWER
a poem by Bhavika Malik &
Shashwat Joglekar, MYP 4
Broth of sunlight ladled over the clouds and ground,
While the pale skies sing louder than the chirping birds,
That's the joy of a blackbird when the world sleeps.
Glistening ponds,
Breathing winds between the ripple tides,
While the toad sits upon the lily pad
And croaks at the tranquil waters for comfort.
Follow the trail to a home at frozen dusk,
Ask the wildflower that blooms between blades of grass,
Drinking the amber light at dusk,
Separated from the daffodils and roses that grow in the garden,
He’d tell you about the joy of being all alone.
The clock ticks every hour
And the waiter chooses to smile
At the clinks of tall ice glasses,
At his scuffed shoes,
At the busboy who clears tables,
At the frenzy of winter
Snow falling on streets,
He watches it all from distance,
Notice the musician
Running his finger against the varnished soundboard,
Pressing the ivory keys,
Watch him rest between the notes,
Ask him if lonely means alone.
