Women’s day
By Niharika Awasthi (MYP 3)
Sighing, watching someone else’s dark, stormy night,
Fate was riding on his trusty steed,
Debating how to deal with this new challenge,
Gender inequality,
Fate is fate, fate decided,
And left this issue unsolved,
Till date, the challenge remains,
Causing so many griefs and pain,
Think of it as a woodcutter with his axe, coming to a tree,
Breaking it, making it, shaping it into the tree he wants to see,
And the leftover debris?
Like the leftover confidence, independence, love, rights
And the roots, the only possible way the tree is still alive,
Without the other things the tree yearns, to survive,
This is just one tree among many,
Standing tall and firm, but their hearts just as empty,
Some of the victims to this issue are not even trees,
Just barren trunks of the people they used
Must we really be this way?
Unable to let our biased opinion sway,
Based on birth, based on right,
Squirming as women slowly open their wings and take
flight,
Must we really be this way?
Ponder on this little,
I wish you a very happy Women’s Day.
