A World
Without Diversity
By Kimaya Singh (MYP 1)
Our world is naturally diverse. We can observe that the
people, food, and clothing are different from others. For in-
stance, not everyone believes in the same religion. Everyone
has different beliefs and values which should be respected.
Understanding the myriad of ideas in various religions can
help us open our minds to various perspectives. Addition-
ally, not everyone follows the same traditions, festivals or
customs. People have unique ways of living that end up be-
ing different from yours. When these religions and festivals
come together, a beautiful and diverse mixture of the two is
created. These are just a few of the hundreds of diverse fac-
tors in our world.
Diversity should be bringing us together not pulling us apart.
We should not be discriminating based on our differences.
We must understand diversity to understand its significance.
If we indulge in meaningful connections and interactions
with people who belong to cultures which are not necessarily
our own, we can be exposed to a myriad of experiences and
ideas. This opens doors to perspectives and makes us more
internationally-minded. It allows us to appreciate and recog-
nize the heritage of various people. Imagine a world without
diversity, it would be a world with nothing interesting and
nothing to learn from.
Cultural diversity allows people to express themselves in a
form they believe in and in a way that allows them to explore
their identity. It allows people to embrace their heritage and
their cultural aspects with the people of their community.
Everyone has their own diverse ways of sharing ideas and
appreciating their ethnicity and everyone has a right to. We
must respect diversity for it is all around us and makes our
society rich in ideas, goods, aesthetics, and in unique expe-
riences.
