Fairtrade
The year 2021 was declared the International Year of Creative
Economy for Sustainable Development at the 74th United Nations
General Assembly. The UN year focused on the critical role of the
creative economy in promoting innovation, inclusive economic
growth, and opportunity for all. The prolonged farmer’s protest
against the government of India that spread across the country en-
couraged students to inquire into the problems being faced by the
farmers. This led to undertaking projects that promoted fair market
practices, sustainable lifestyle and economic well-being of all sec-
tions of society.
Our school was awarded the
FAIRAWARE Award for our under-
stading of where food comes from, what
is meant by ‘fairness’ and our ability to
evaluate how Fairtrade can work to ad-
dress unfairness in supply chains and the
FAIRACTIVE Award for taking action
by collaborating with with The Fairtrade
Schools Programme as a School Led
Service Project.
Through this project, students got opportunities to discover how
their choices - as individuals and as a collective - can make a dif-
ference in the lives of people across the country and on the planet.
On the occasion of International Day for Eradication of Poverty,
celebrated on October 17th, our school hosted a special assembly,
wherein our middle school students presented their ideas about
the eradication of poverty. Ms Amit Sinha, founder of NGOs Ekjut
and Jamghat graced the assembly and shared his experiences with
the students. This assembly aimed to connect the Sustainable De-
velopment goal of poverty eradication with Fairtrade.
