DPS International, Gurgaon hosted a career planning seminar on April 14, 2019 in collaboration with High School Moms. The day began with an enlightening panel discussion on ‘Need for emotional well-being of a high school going teenager’. Among the panellists were esteemed educationists, Ms. Aditi Misra, Director Principal DPS Sector 45,Ms. Sunita Nagpal, Principal, K R Mangalam World School, Gurugram, Ms. Anuradha Handa, Principal GD Goenka Public School Sector 48, Gurgaon, Ms. Rima Singh Head of School, DPS International, Gurgaon and Ms. Seema Kaushal, Secondary School Principal, DPS International, Gurgaon. The discussion was moderated by Mr. Abhishek Gupta, a career expert and counsellor.
The focus of the discussion was that young adults face trials and tribulations during teenage, a phase when the young are neither a child nor an adult. Key points of the discussions can be summed up in the words of Ms. Aditi Misra that maintaining an organic environment of compassion, empathy and happiness is the responsibility of parents. Very well-articulated by Ms. Rima Singh was the fact that parents must talk so that kids will listen and parents must listen too so that kids will talk. As rightly identified by Ms. Seema Kaushal, in our busy lives loneliness among teenagers is the root cause of such a tumultuous state of mind. She concluded by saying that problems are the only constant in all lives, and as adults we must be role models for teenagers who will learn from us how to strengthen their back to shoulder ups and downs, rather than trying the impossible of minimizing problems. This was followed by two consecutive sessions conducted by Mr. Abhishek Gupta on new age careers, college readiness and profile building for a strong application for Indian colleges and overseas. It was indeed an overwhelming response of over 700 attendees.
